How a global medical device company used Loftware Spectrum to reduce label templates by 40%

A global leader in medical devices worked with Loftware to upgrade its labeling system, so the company could rapidly respond to changing regulations and integrate with Oracle EBS and Agile PLM.

The organization has over 1,200 employees operating at facilities in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America, and currently reaches more than 50 markets via direct sales and distributors.

As a medical device company, they follow strict regulations on what information is printed on finished goods and packaging labels. And if there’s any inaccurate data or any errors with labeling, they can’t sell products and could face costly recalls. However, due to operating many legacy labeling systems as a result of several acquisitions, the company was experiencing label data inaccuracies – costing time, money, and resources.

As a result, the company selected Loftware Spectrum because it provided the accuracy, automation, and integration capabilities they needed to take their business to the next level.

4 ways Loftware improved the company’s labeling processes

#1 Reduced label templates by 40%. By standardizing on one global labeling system, the company has consolidated the proliferation of label templates they were forced to maintain in their prior legacy labeling system. So far, they’ve reduced the number of label templates by at least 40%.

#2 Reduced turnaround time. The company can now leverage the use of dynamic data and approved content from Oracle EBS and Agile. As a result, they’ve reduced the turnaround time for releasing new stock-keeping units (SKUs) with existing label templates. Using common label templates across products has also helped to improve turnaround times when label changes are required.

#3 Increased security with role-based access. The company has gained greater control over who can update templates and/or reprint labels thanks to Spectrum’s role-based access. They also use security rules to determine which user interface application is presented when an employee logs into the system. Both improvements have given the company greater data control and accountability.

#4 IT support during and after implementation. Leveraging Loftware’s expertise, the company was able to fully migrate and consolidate legacy label templates. This resulted in streamlining their overall label management and change-control processes. They can also rely on Loftware’s 24 x 7 x 365 technical support should any questions arise.
